Dr. Julius Abram Bogart

Biographical Sketch of Dr. Julius Abram Bogart
April 13, 1869 – November 17, 1941

Julius Abram Bogart was the first child born into the farming family of Henry D. and Annie M. Bogart of Vermillion County, Illinois on April 13, 1869. In 1894 he moved to Wheatley, St. Francis County. He received his license to practice medicine from the University of Arkansas Medical Science Campus in 1902 and began his career in North Little Rock, ministering to the aid and treatment of the sick. In 1906 he moved to Forrest City where he practiced until a year before his death. For more than a half century, he ministered to the sick of eastern Arkansas. Over the years he became one of Eastern Arkansas’ most widely known physicians. “This most lovable and colorful individual, as was Dr. Bogart, will be held in high esteem in the hearts of his many friends and associates for years to come.”1
On February 2, 1892 he and Nellie Manasco were wed in in White County, Arkansas. To this union were born three sons, William Lindon who died at the age of two, Forrest C., and Dr. Clarence Nall Bogart.
Dr. Bogart established Forrest City’s first treatment clinic, and throughout the years held offices in the County and State Medical Associations. “On June 10, 1919 he was elected president of the State Medical Board at a meeting held at the New Capital hotel in Little Rock, Arkansas.”2 “Dr. Bogart was a former president of the St. Francis Medical Association, a member of the Arkansas and the American Medical associations, and was a member of the state board of Medical Examiners eight years. He served on the City Council of Forrest City many years and at the time of his death was one of the three police commissioners.” 3
Dr. Bogart died at home on November 17, 1941 and is buried in the Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City, St. Francis County, Arkansas.
